Chadar Trek

The total distance of this tour (one way) is approximately 105 Km and average distance cover a day is 15 to 17 Km. The temperature remains minus 15 to 20 during the day time and 25 to 35 during the night. After keeping all the facts in one's mind bring your most warmest Jackets and sleeping bags also good shoe. Most of the trek is done on the ice (Chaddar) but at some places we must climb icy rocks or trails and in Zanskar itself we can walk through the normal trail used by the people daily.


Day 01: Arrive Delhi

Transfer to the hotel. This day you may Spend in the city for shopping. Over night at hotel in Delhi.

Day 02: Flight Delhi – Leh ( 3500 m )

Early morning at 0430 a.m. you will be transferred to domestic airport to Board flight for Leh which is an hour flight. From Leh airport, transfer to hotel. Day free at Leh. There are plenty of things to be seen in and out of Leh town but we do not recommend any major exercise immediately.Allow the time for acclimatization. However a walk around the old town And perhaps up to the old palace would not be out of the question.

Day 03: Leh

Today we provide you an small sightseeing around Leh. Evening we take You a local family house to show you the Ladakhi tradition and culture.Over night at the hotel.

Day 04: Drive Leh – Sumdha ( Chilling )

Get set and go, to start the most exciting trip on the Zanskar River. We Drive from Leh to Sumdha-Do to begin with. The road fallow the Indus River for an hour to the confluence of Indus and Zanskar River, then fallow The Zanskar river till Sumdha-Do. We then trek for an hour on and off the frozen river to the village of Chilling. We camp near the village or stay in a family house.

Day 05: Trek Chilling – Dakmar Bawo

For the next five days we trek up on the frozen river through gorges and deep valleys. There are number of choices for camping, and there for we can make our itinerary during this time as flexible as we like. There are also many caves ( locals call it Bawo) which can be used for the night Shelter. The names of the stopping places are listed below. Tonight we camp at Dakmar Bawo.

Day 06: Trek Dakmar Bawo to Tibbi Bawo camp. (6 hours walk). Day 07: Trek Tibbi Bawo to Nay yakste Bawo camp. (5 – 6 hours walk). Day 08: Trek Nay yakste Bawo to Wamay Bawo camp. (5 hours walk). Day 09: Trek Wamay Bawo to Zangla village stay in a family house. (6 hours walk).

We are now in the Kingdom of Zanskar, where in the past times there use to be two kings in the region, one lived at Zangla and other at Padum (the capital of Zanskar).

Day 10: Trek from Zangla to Stongde (5 hours).

We now walking on the normal Trek route and very easy walk. Pass Tsazar village enroute and reach Stongde in the afternoon. We may stay in a family house here at Stongde.The monastery can be visit next day morning.

Day 11: Trek from Stonge to Padum (3 hours walk).

We are now in the capital of Zanskar. Around Padum there are few monasteries to be visited and they Are called Pepiting Gompa and Spadum Gompa. We have three days in Padum for explore this area. Cultural activates people and the way of People's living in this remote place.

Day 12: Visit Around Padum by Trek

Day 13: Visit Around Padum by Trek

Day 14 to 19:

Trek back from Zangla till Chilling on same route. The return trek is apparently quicker and easier. On the 19th day evening we will pick you up from Sumdhado and drive back to Leh. Overnight at Hotel in Leh.

Day 20: In Leh Day free at Leh.

One can go for shopping at Leh handicrafts center and in Choglamsar Tibetan handicrafts etc. Overnight at hotel in Leh.

Day 21: Leh - Delhi Fly to Delhi in the morning.

Evening free. Overnight at hotel in Delhi.

Day 22: Delhi Day free for shopping.

After dinner transfer to INTL airport for the flight.
